Post card

Make sure you send a post card!

This card is composed of all of my own pictures from my trip to Hawaii. The images help me design my brand.

The food is a special part of any experience. What you eat represents the culture you are visiting.

The relax part of my brand is to remind people not to stress over little things that they can't control and to focus on things they can control.

In this post card I represent all the things I love; my family, the beach, and food.

This next post card is again made u of all of
my own personal pictures.

I tried to think of where I would be in life in 10 years.

After failing to think of something I can see myself pursuing I decided I want to be somewhere on a beach relaxing.

For this post card I used a clipping mask to put the pictures inside the letters.

First I put the image layer into the post card I was using. I then created the clipping mask and positioned the photo behind the text.
I repeated this for all of the words and letters.

This postcard was based off of a tutorial we did in class for Hawaii.

In this post card I extracted the flower from another picture and then copied the layer to make the blue flower.
When I first put the pink flower into the postcard it was very blurry and pixelated.

To get rid of that I had to hit enter.

I then copied that flower and used Cmd U to change the saturation and color of the flower.
I also added in another picture and gave it a stroke and a drop shadow for effect.

Got legos? And blood?

Similarities Between projects

The scope of the blood drive project was to follow the story of a subject giving blood for the blood drive and edit the story with a voiceover and use sound bits.

The scope of the lego project was to follow the story of the two subjects building a lego set for lego day and edit the story with a voiceover and use sound bits.

These two projects were both filmed on the spot without much planning or instruction. There was no planning for this video.

I just grabbed a camera and followed the six shot sequence for both videos.

It was difficult to come up with questions to ask the subject on the spot.

It was even more difficult to find sound bits that made sense with my voiceover because the subjects in the Lego build video did not answer the questions in complete sentences.

As I began editing the Blood drive video, I came to realize no sound had been recorded. To replace the emptiness I had to add my own dialogue as the voiceover.

What I learned

Both of these projects showed me how to go with the flow of what is happening around me and still end up with good shots and sound bits by using the six shot sequence and asking good questions.

From these projects I learned how to act quickly in order to follow the subject.

Technically I learned how to use the microphone to record a voiceover.

I also learned how to properly hold the camera without using a tripod.

Next time I will make sure the sound is turned on when recording and make sure the subject answers in complete sentences.

If I were to do this project again I would ask some of the same questions because the answers made for good sound bits.

This project helped me expand my learning on camera technique as well as editing technique.

Realistic Shadows

Realistic Shadows: Puppy power

For this project I chose a picture of this puppy from morgue files.com. I used the tutorial given to us by Mrs. Lofquist to direct me in making this shadow. From this assignment I learned how to make a realistic looking shadow on an image that did not originally have a shadow.

Tonightx2 Music video

Tonightx2

The Project

The scope of this project was to create a 90 second music video. We first wrote down ideas about songs and shots that we liked.

My process

Once we chose the song Tonight Tonight by Hot Chelle Rae we began to watch other music videos and create a selection of screenshots of shots we liked. Then we began to storyboard our ideas. It took us over a week to film all of the shots we needed and about another week to create our own edits.

What i learned

During this process i learned how to cooperate with others when coming up with ideas. Also I learned how set clips to the beat of the music. If I could do something differently I would have shot the music video outside of school. I would keep the same song and the main plot line. From this experience I will take the shot ideas we came up with and the new things I learned in final cut to enhance my next project. I am very pleased with the outcome  of this music video. We all worked very hard on this project.

Journey to the Floating Mountain

Journey to the Floating Mountain

For this project we were to take a picture of this rock formation that was originally in water and add it to a picture of the sky. We used the quick selection tool to select the mountain and then used refine edge to make the trees and the edge smoother. I put a cloud in front of the bottom of the mountain to make it look more realistic. After I finished all of that i added a moon and flowers and also a title and my name.
This screenshot shows the image before any of the masks were added. This is the original images put together.

This image shows what the image looks like after the hue and saturation was changed.

In this lesson I learned how to use the refine edge tool and how to use hue/saturation to add effects to the image. During this project I learned how to properly use the quick selection tool. there were a lot of layers and different images used for this project so I learned how to properly organize my layers. http://www.morguefile.com this is the link to the site that I used to get the moon and flowers. Next time i do this project I would spend more time making my cloud more realistic looking. I would choose the same moon. From this experience I will take the skills and tools I learned how to use.

Creative Spheres

 Creative Spheres

Circles are flat objects and spheres are 3D. Circles have no depth and spheres can go all the way around an object.
When I started all three of these projects I first sketched them in my sketchbook. I chose the tutorials based off of what i had done with my sketches.
Photoshop and illustrator are very different. Illustrator uses vector and saves as a PDF. It also has a better pen tool and you don't have to select a layer to work on it. Photoshop is a Bit map-pixels. It has the marquee tool which illustrator does not have. Photoshop also uses masks and you save it as a JPEG

This Sphere didn't take very long to make.
It simply used a pattern and the 3D tool.

http://www.photoshoplady.com/tutorial/create-a-nice-3d-ball/5131 Photoshop

This sphere was off a tutorial just like the first one. I first created the pattern and then duplicated it and turned it to 45 degrees. After I did that then I started to play around with the gradients to see which colors look best with the background.

This sphere was my own personal design. I started by making the pattern and then made it 3D and duplicated the layer turning it so it looked round.

Red Sphere

Red Sphere

This sphere was done in Photoshop. I found this sphere harder to create because there are a lot more things you have to add to it to make it look nice.

This sphere was done in illustrator. I think it was
easier to make this sphere because there are more
tools in illustrator that are used for shapes.

My Logo

My Logo

The assignment was to create a personal logo in illustrator. First i started by coming up with ideas and sketching them. I tried a lot of different shapes and styles but these are the sketches of that I chose to work with in illustrator.

I made 4 art boards to work with in illustrator. I started by just creating the simple outline and type style I wanted to use. I then messed around with ideas like dots and colors and lines. Eventually i came across a tutorial to create a feather and decided to try that. After deciding on feathers I tried different arrangements of feathers and styles of type.

Eventually I decided to use the color blue which is my favorite color. After arranging the feathers in different orders I decided to put them evenly in the corners. This has been my process to create my personal logo.

Google

Google

Google was discovered by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998 originally a research project. Google was originally called the "BackRub" project.  The name "Google" was originated from the misspelling of "googol". The google logo was designed by Ruth Kedar based on a Catull typeface and an old style serif typeface. The typeface and colors have changed many times since the name was changed to google.

Captain America shield

This is a shield I made in illustrator using a totorial from Lynda.com. To make this you create the circles and star and the basic shapes. I then used the flare tool to create the reflective effect on the shield. I also put a gradient on the biggest red and blue circles. This creates a darkening effect on the shield.

The chase

The Chase
The scope of this project was to create a 30 shot sequence chase scene. My partner was Sarah Price and together we decided to do a man vs. man story. After deciding this we started to story board our ideas. We completed filming this video in four hours and edited it in 3 hours. While making this project I learned how to follow the person running but connect the shots. Professionally I learned how to collaborate my ideas with my partner on the shots we take. If I could do something different I would have more shots of running and more inside. I would keep the same ending though.

Pencil and can

First we used a book to show us how to work in illustrator. I made a pencil and a pencil can.
Next we got to explore and make our own pencil and pencil can.
Finally we made our own complementary objects.
My take aways from this assignment were, learning that command Z is undo, that you can use command K to set your preferences, and that by holding down shift you can make the shape proportional.

6 shot sequence

This video is a Six Shot Sequence. I made this in e-Communication video class. In this assignment we used six shots to show different kinds of shots like medium, close up, wide shot, and point of view. in this video Sarah Price shows her love for drawing but doesn't think her drawing is good enough.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design is art. It is a visual representation of something. Graphic Design is the art of communication, stylizing, and problem solving through the use of type, space, and image. Graphic Design impacts our lives everyday. There is always an idea behind graphic design that the consumer will remember.
