My 10 things

My 10 things

The assignment was to create a poster that displayed my 10 favorite things. During this lesson I learned a lot about text padding and how to manage white space. This project made me think about the most important things in my life. I also learned how to add contrast to the lest by making it different colors and sizes and fonts.

Most of the ideas I got for the layout and the things I chose came from the 10 things interview magazine does. This magazine has people pick their favorite things or the things they can't like without. They mostly interview famous people. I tried to be as specific as I could when choosing items. By doing this I could then expand on the item by explaining why I chose it and what extends on to it. For example, I put a picture of Sweet and Sour chicken so that when I explained it I could say that its from my favorite restaurant.

Frozen movie poster

Type

The style of type I chose is called Harry Potter. I liked how edgy this style was and how it goes along with the ice theme of the movie. I put a drop shadow on the text to give the effect that it was icy.

Mountains

The mountains I made are called swiss mountains. I found the idea off of a Titanic movie poster that used this simple design to make a design that was very creative. The design is simply just triangles of different colors layered on top of each other.

Snow

The now in the background was created from a tutorial i found on snowy effects. I just simply used the blur tool and the shape tool to make a snowy effect. The big snowflake in the middle was made by layering different custom shapes together and adding transparent parts in the middle. I also added effects like shadows and inner glow.

Saul Bass

My poster is similar to a Saul bass style of poster because it uses 2-3 colors and black and white. My poster also has a simple design of mountains and custom font. My poster is different than the Saul Bass style because mine is much more complex in the overall design of the poster. The snowflake has more detail than a normal Saul Bass poster would. The Jaws poster is an example of a Saul Bass poster.

Working with type

I followed the tutorial and then went back and did my own type design. I typed my name then used the create outlines tool to stretch and manipulate each individual letter.
