Benched

Benched

The last project of my sophomore year was a short film under 3 minutes. We had 4 weeks to do this. We were challenged to use a hat, water bottle, intentional source of life, and the phrase 'light out' in our film.

The process for this project started with us brainstorming ideas for a plot. We came up with the idea for this film fairly quickly. Once we came up with the idea for Benched and figured out how the story would go, we began to story board and create a shot list. We then created a script and picked actors. We used people in our group as the actors. After we finished the shot list, production schedule, and the storyboard, we began filming.

We filmed most of this film outside because this is a film about softball. Filming outside was difficult because the weather and wind played a big factor. It took us about two weeks to film.

Another difficulty we had was getting shots that made it look like girl was getting hit with a bat without actually getting hit. To solve this problem we used the sun to create a shadow so that Sarah could swing the bat over the top of Katie's head and it looks like she hits her. The sun and the shadows make it so when watching it you have no depth perception therefore, allows us to make the bat scene.

From this project I learned how to edit the audio to make wind and other outside noises not as loud. I also learned how to handle being in a group with so many people. This was difficult because we had to take in account everyones ideas.

If I could do something different I would have given everyone microphones so the audio wouldn't be as bad. I would keep the plot the same I would just make sure we got all the shots we needed.

To enhance my next project I will take the ability to work with so many people in a short amount of time to get the work done.

This was a very fun project because I got to work with some of my close friends and I was very proud of the way we all worked together to get this project done in time.
